ICYMI: Celebrating International Beer Day: P.E.I., Nova Scotia brewers thrilled 'seeing the local beer scene flourish' | SaltWire

Isaac MacIntyre is the Marketing and Sales Manager for Copper Bottom Brewing in Montague, P.E.I. - ContributedAtlantic Canada's craft beer scene is a rising star and is being celebrated Aug. 5 as we mark International Beer Day.Isaac MacIntyre knows a little bit about that. MacIntyre is the marketing and sales manager for Copper Bottom Brewing in Montague, P.E.I.

“The industry has really grown since then, and there are now nine breweries on P.E.I. It’s been really great to be a part of a growing industry and seeing the local beer scene flourish,” he says.MacIntyre feels that making a great beer begins with choosing quality ingredients. Copper Bottom recently released a seasonal offering called Betty’s Ale, named after co-owner Ashley Condon’s mother. Betty was one of the first women in Eastern P.E.I to captain her own fishing boat. - Contributed

White feels that to make a great craft beer takes “being intuitive, buying the very best of ingredients and focusing on quality more than anything," he says. A favourite summer seasonal for the last six or seven years has been The Silver Tart, an organic sour raspberry wheat ale. The name is a play on Silver Dart, an airplane designed and built by the Aerial Experiment Association , formed under the guidance of Dr. Alexander Graham Bell, who lived in nearby Baddeck.“In the original brewing facility, we were able to produce 800-litre batches. In the second facility, we have the ability to produce 4,700 litre batches,” says White.

The industry has been around for quite some time but she points out it has grown exponentially over the last five to six years.“It is an actual science, and many of our master brewers have engineering and science backgrounds.”There wouldn't be craft beer without malt. - Craft Brewers Association of Nova Scotia - Contributed
