The Cape Breton Sooners will compete in the Canadian Junior Little League Championship in Lethbridge, Alta. The tournament will begin on Saturday and run until Aug. 7 at Spitz Stadium. The Sooners were given a berth in the national tournament after New Brunswick elected not to field a team in the division this summer. Because New Brunswick didn’t have any teams this year, the Sooners were left without teams and a league to play in. “I think we can compete,” said McInnis, noting there wasn’t much baseball for players over the last two summers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With pitch counts and rest days, having an abundance of pitching will be key to the success of the club, a fact McInnis acknowledged.
