Glace Bay residents' complaints of unsightly garbage heeded

Glace Bay residents Francis Allison, left, and Ann Coombes show the garbage pile that had not been picked up — until Tuesday afternoon. IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POST - IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTGLACE BAY, N.S. — What began as residents’ complaints lodged against an unsightly eyesore in a community have ultimately resulted in a municipality responding swiftly to clean the matter up.

“They say there’s too much stuff in there that didn’t belong there, including some needles. So we were told they couldn’t clean this up.” ”I told them you can wait as long as you want because I know the guy who lives at this one house is not going to clean it.”Hours after speaking with Allison and Coombes, the Cape Breton Post learned the unsightly garbage eyesore is no more.

Const. Arnold McKinnon:"The person had been warned several times — and just hadn’t responded." IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POST - IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTTurns out, according to Allison, the matter appeared to have been resolved Tuesday afternoon. “The guy who lives there is not well, and he can’t get out of the house,” Allison said, without specifically identifying the individual by name. “He had somebody take the garbage out and put it in the yard. He’s on oxygen machines, so he can’t move around.”
