When the show was conceived, Power said she and Dos Santos didn’t know anything more about Desmond other than the fact she would be featured on a bank note.
Dos Santos said the more she learned about Desmond, the more the passion grew inside her to tell the Nova Scotia woman’s story. Dos Santos added that the murder of George Floyd in May 2020 and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement have lent extra weight to her performances.
