Ringo Starr reminisced about Paul McCartney reaching out to him with the idea of releasing The Beatles ' song 'Now and Then', which has been nominated for two Grammys. This unique track made its way back into the charts last year, completed with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI). Released in November, 'Now and Then' features polished John Lennon vocals from the 1970s and guitar recordings by George Harrison from 1995, complemented by new contributions from Sir Paul and Sir Ringo.

The vocals originate from a demo John recorded at his home in New York's Dakota Building. The song is in the running for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance at the 2025 Grammys. Speaking to Music Week, the Dingle-born musician, aged 84, expressed his desire: 'I'd love to win a Grammy. That's the business I'm in – and the track is good. The last track ever by the boys.' With regard to Sir Paul’s vision for 'Now and Then', Sir Ringo shared: 'He said, 'You know that track we did? Well, I put it together. Are you going to play drums on it? '' 'I said, 'Sure, send the files over.' That's how we do it now – and I put the drums on and sang on the chorus.' 'He did a great job. He put the strings on and the lead guitar that gave the track its emotion. It worked out really great and let's hope for a Grammy. We'll see; a lot of people are up for Grammys.', reports the Liverpool Echo. During his 'Got Back' world tour, Sir Paul has been featuring the track as nostalgic images of the band are displayed, creating an evocative scene. At the age of 82, he often takes a moment at the end of the performance to soak in the audience's sentiment. Sir Ringo, who will be releasing his country album 'Look Up' soon, shared his mixed feelings about AI in music, noting its potential risks but also acknowledging its benefits, as seen in the song 'Now and Then'.
