The Anfield Tour, Museum and Abseil is a day that every big Liverpool fan needs to experience
Back in the days of sitting in the Main Stand watching Liverpool, I never for a second thought I would one day be standing 100ft high above the city on top of the very same stand ready to abseil down it, but that's what I did when I recently took on the famous Anfield Abseil.
It's quite a thrill to wander the inner sanctum of Anfield knowing that every other week Jurgen Klopp and the players also walk these same halls, not to mention the sheer amount of legends and icons who have also walked them over the years. There's also real insight into the match day experience the players are exposed to as you get to walk the press room, the spaces where the players conduct interviews post game as well as getting to step into the home dressing room itself.
Once I was up out there in the open air -all 100ft above the ground - the size of the task ahead of me began to feel all too real. I slowly, and nervously, walked up to the expert instructor, named Ross, who would be helping me scale down the side of the stadium. Once on the ledge and overlooking the entire city, my panicked eyes surveying everything from Bootle docks to the Wirral and beyond, I was then instructed to simply just lean back - which was by far the scariest thing I've ever done in my life. As I did, Ross guided me as I began making my way down the side of the stand, passing the famous crest all the while feeling exhilarated, quite proud of myself and yet still fully understanding why Jamie Carragher had last minute doubts.
