The Secretary of the Eastern Cape Judge President, Andiswa Mengo, testified before the Judicial Conduct Tribunal, detailing her experiences of sexual harassment at the hands of Judge President Selby Mbenenge. Mengo recounted numerous instances of inappropriate messages, including heart emojis, a python emoji interpreted as a penis, and a collage depicting sexual positions. She also revealed that Mbenenge sent her a picture of a half-naked woman in response to her request for help with an assignment on gender-based violence.

In response to a request by judges’ secretary Andiswa Mengo that Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge help her with an assignment on gender-based violence, he sent her a picture of a half-naked woman. During another WhatsApp exchange, he sent her a “collage” depicting sexual positions in what she interpreted to be a request about which position she preferred.
Mengo became emotional when asked to describe the picture. Tribunal Chair Bernard Ngoepe said, “We can all see it.”

Sexual Harassment Probe Against Eastern Cape Judge President Mbenenge Continues PubliclyProbing allegations of sexual harassment against Judge President Selby Mbenenge of the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court continues on Tuesday with the evidence of the complainant Andiswa Mengo.
