Downs reshuffle foreign quota again

Mamelodi Sundowns ’ annual changes to their foreign quota are in full swing following the arrival of their latest signing, with the possibility of yet another surprise still in store. Sundowns have added Brazilian striker Arthur de Oliviera Sales as the tradition of South Americans being signed continues for yet another year.

Sales will be tasked with providing goals up front and comes in to find fellow Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro Costa, who was impressive with 16 goals last season after also joining from a Belgian club last year. With the 22-year-old coming in, this means he joins Costa, Marcelo Allende , Matias Esquivel and Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil in the list of five foreign players at the club. The four South Americans will stay, with Costa and Allende settled, while Esquivel will be keen to improve his numbers. However, there has been speculation suggesting Boutouil could leave considering the options available at left centre-back for Sundowns. The foreign quota reshuffle is common at Sundowns as just last season they started with Junior Mendieta and Nasir registered along Costa, Allende and Boutouil. Nasir made way for Esquivel halfway through the season with the PSL regulations now allowing for the foreign quota to be altered by subtracting and adding players in January, unlike before.Throughout the last decade, The Brazilians have had a long list of players taking up places in their foreign with Erwin Saavedra , Gaston Sirino , Ricardo Nascimento , Divine Lunga , Pavol Safranko , Bangaly Soumahoro , Mauricio Affonso , and Jose Ali Meza the more recent names. Before then, there was Emiliano Tade , Toni Silva , Jeremy Brockie , Brimah Razak , Fares Hachi , Leonardo Castro , Mogakolodi Ngele , Yannick Zakri , Fiston Abdul Razak , Ejike Uzoenyi , Kuda Mahachi, Khama Billiat, Cuthbert Malajila and Rashid Sumaila .For 14 free days, you can have access to the best from Soccer Laduma, KickOff, Daily Sun, TrueLove and Drum.
