Recent charge was dismissed in a St. John’s courtroom Tuesday

Mittens the cat was last seen in Port aux Basques in September of 2019. Two people were later convicted of killing it. — ContributedJody Anderson was in court for about 10 minutes Tuesday, Dec. 6, before she walked away clear of the charge against her.

She pleaded not guilty to the offence and had been scheduled for a half-day trial in provincial court in St. John’s Tuesday morning, but when the matter was called the Crown indicated it would be presenting no evidence and the charge was dismissed.Anderson and Peter Rossiter, 53, were convicted in December 2020 for killing Mittens, a cat that had been placed in Anderson’s care after its owner, Anderson’s friend, died.

Depending on specific circumstances, offenders serving provincial jail time can be eligible for release after serving two-thirds of their sentence.
