The Ballymena fighter returns to the UFC this weekend against Chidi Njokuani
It was a comment from friend and fellow MMA fighter Paul Hughes that offered Rhys McKee a new perspective."I think it was Paul Hughes said to me when Ruby was born, that I have already won in life. And it's true. What else do I want?"Read more: Watch: Luke Littler sends Belfast darts crowd wild with 'outrageous' finish
Belfast Live got to chat to Rhys ahead of his weekend showdown with Njokuani. We talked about his new family life, being back in the UFC and how his "unshakeable" belief has led to this moment.RMcK: It is good. We arrived last Saturday. The plan was to acclimatise. There is a bit of a minor time difference. I just wanted to get here and do some training, and just get around the atmosphere of fight week. It feels great, to be honest.
RMcK: That guy's posts always strike a chord with me. There are bad guys in life that get away with things but eventually get caught out. But there are also people in life who do it the right way and it just takes a longer time. My time is coming. There are people in life that are meant to win no matter what they do. It doesn't mean the result of a fight as such. I have already won in life. I have a wife and child, this will just be the cherry on the cake. And Saturday is my time.
You bring a lot of entertainment to the octagon. You have that never-say-die spirit and you love a war. Fans love watching you... RMcK: You know what it is, I just love a fight. Don't get me wrong if we are in the third round, covered in blood, with two minutes to go, I will have a smile on my face. I am not saying I don't like it. I really enjoy it in a weird way. I love to fight so much that sometimes I am too in it. There are times for it, and times against it.RMcK: It's funny. We were renting a car here and the girl said, 'Do you think you are going to win?'.
