Cape Breton Correctional Facility in Gardiner Mines. CAPE BRETON POST STAFF.GARDINER MINES — An incident at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility that resulted in a death on Saturday is under investigation.
The individual was found unresponsive at 8:43 a.m. at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility on Saturday. According to Correctional Services, staff immediately began emergency response procedures and contacted emergency health services. The individual was transferred to the hospital and subsequently died at 9:51 a.m.
Any death in custody is referred to the local police agency for investigation and an immediate internal review is undertaken, Corrections said.
