The Blues reign without Graham Potter began and N’Golo Kante captained the team, while Liverpool surprisingly named Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson on the bench.

With chances few and far between from both teams, the Blues looked to have gone through Reece James from a corner by Ben Chilwell but it was overturned as Enzo Fernandez was caught offside in the build-up. Chelsea enjoyed a strong opening shortly from the break before Kovacic dragged an angle pass in space by Kante following a three-on-three move wide of the intended target.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp made two substitutions midway in the second half where Robertson replaced Konstantinos Tsimikas before Salah entered ahead of Roberto Firmino.
