The decision to sack Potter was a surprise, though, as the London side paid £21.5 million in compensation to Brighton & Hove Albion to bring the 47-year-old and his coaching staff to Stamford Bridge just six months ago. journalist Miguel Delaney, there are three managers being considered for the role now that Potter has left the club, namely: Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann.
Nagelsmann is reported to be the favourite, as things stand, to take charge of Chelsea following his recent departure from Bayern Munich. The German was said to be a prime candidate for the Tottenham Hotspur managerial role recently vacated by Antonio Conte, but the Blues could persuade him to move to west London instead.Meanwhile, De Zerbi has impressed in his short tenure with the Seagulls to date, having after led them to sixth position on the EPL table, which puts the club in contention to play in Europe next season.
Like Nagelsmann, Pochettino has also been linked with the Spurs job since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, but it remains unconfirmed as to whether or not an approach from Chelsea is on the cards, or if he would take the job considering his prior relationship with the Lilywhites.
