Officials at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park at Brookvale are working hard to make sure the slopes and trails are ready when the Canada Winter Games opens on Feb. 18.
The park will host a number of events, such as cross-country skiing, snowboarding, freestyle aerials, slope-style snowboard and alpine ski cross.Attention has now turned to the cross-country trails and finding out how much natural snow they have to work with there, especially from what fell on Jan. 23-24.
“We can make snow and maintain it as long we were strategic about how we make it, where we make it and how we stay off it, more importantly. We have to make sure we preserve what we do have," Curley said in an interview on Jan. 20 in advance of the recent winter storm. Clark said long-range temperatures look good for keeping the snow, but contingency plans are in place if mild weather moves in.
Clark added that local Games officials and national sports organizations have signed off on potential changes to schedules should weather prove an issue.
