The matter was adjourned to Jan. 24 for sentencing. - SaltWire Network fileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A repeat drunk driver who rear-ended another motor vehicle while more than double the legal alcohol limit has been sentenced to 45 days in jail.
At the Jan. 16 court appearance, Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court that on Thursday, Oct. 20 at around 9:45 p.m., Charlottetown police were called to a collision involving two motor vehicles at the Spring Park Road and Euston Street intersection. When police arrived, they learned that a white Honda Pilot driven by Knickle had rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection.
There was no damage to either vehicle, and both drivers didn't require medical attention as a result of the collision, said Goulden. Giddings noted that shortly after the arrest, Knickle has taken steps to deal with his alcohol addiction, including one-on-one counselling sessions and has abstained from alcohol. Giddings referenced a doctor's letter indicating that Knickle uses alcohol to cope with depression."I'm using this as an opportunity to make a positive change in my life and it's going well," he added.
