Department Spokesperson Tahir Sema says they have also finalised the necessary planning and technical work for Phase 2, which is expected to yield approximately 268 additional residential units. “The commencement of Phase 2 remains dependent on outstanding municipal processes, including township establishment and the issuing of the required legal instruments by the City of Johannesburg. These processes fall within the city’s mandate. The City of Johannesburg is to convene a multi-departmental, city-wide initiative to address outstanding approvals, accelerate Phase 2 implementation, manage the challenges associated with the growth of the informal settlement, environmental issues and issues of land invasion and illegal occupation.
