CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A Charlottetown man who fled police in a stolen vehicle shortly after pumping gas into it has been sentenced for several ...

The P.E.I. provincial court building in Charlottetown is located on Water Street. File - Terrence McEachernCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A Charlottetown man who fled police in a stolen vehicle shortly after pumping gas into it has been sentenced for several offences.

The first of several offences occurred on May 9. Crown attorney Molly Murphy told the court that on that day at around 1:30 a.m., MacAusland went to the Needs convenience store on Euston Street to buy some food items. The store had a no-trespassing order against MacAusland from entering the store. When he went to pay for the items, the staff refused to serve him. As a result, he took the items without paying and left the store. The value of the items was $21.62.

Chief Judge Jeff Lantz accepted a joint recommendation from Murphy and Milne and sentenced MacAusland to a total of 40 days in jail for all of the offences. The majority of that sentence — 30 days — was for the flight from police charge.
