A P.E.I. man charged with stealing money from a laundromat with a pair of scissors has pleaded guilty in provincial court.

Adrian Steven Gallant, 31, was initially charged with robbery with a weapon. However, on Nov. 28 in provincial court in Charlottetown, Gallant agreed to plead guilty to theft under $5,000. - SaltWire Network FileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. —

The issue of Gallant's mental health was then raised. MacDonald said Gallant had undergone a mental health assessment within the past 18 months and was found to be responsible and fit for court purposes.At the Nov. 28 court appearance, Gallant was calmer when addressing the court. MacDonald suggested that since Gallant was self-represented and didn't understand his options, a lawyer acting as a friend of the court should be appointed to assist.
