An in-person public information centre for new wastewater infrastructure in Wellington will take place onThe County will host the PIC at the Wellington and District Community Centre .
The PIC will focus specifically on the new equalization tank that will be constructed at the existing wastewater treatment plant in Wellington.as an interim solution to address capacity issues at the existing wastewater plant until a new plant can be constructed.west of the existing Wellington wastewater treatment plant
. The equalization tank will provide a buffer during peak flows or extreme wet weather events and help maximize use of the existing plant’s capacity. The equalization tank will be permanent and incorporated into the proposed new Wellington wastewater treatment plant when the existing plant is replaced.. Those designs will be presented at the PIC. The project is currently out to tender for construction services and is scheduled to close in late August. It is anticipated construction will begin in the fall of 2022.
A Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment study for the proposed replacement of the existing Wellington wastewater treatment plant is currently underway. The Class EA study will identify and evaluate alternative design concepts for the new wastewater treatment plant. Preferred treatment design concepts will be selected to minimize technical, socio-cultural, natural environmental and economic impacts.
