There may be lots of competition in the middle of the park at Mamelodi Sundowns, but young Ofentse Mashiane is ready to roll up his sleeves and fight for a first team spot, especially after making an appearance in the DStv Premiership last season.
Mashiane has been bossing midfield battles in both the Diski Challenge and Shield competitions and feels he is now ready to make a move up to the first team, where the likes of Andile Jali, Rivaldo Coetzee, Siphelele Mkhulise, Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule and Lebohang Maboe are competing for a spot in the starting line-up. The 21-year-old Mashiane was given an opportunity to play against Royal AM last season.
"I don't want to play the whole season for the Diski Challenge team because I have been playing. Now I have to go to another level and meet other challenges and take it from there. I am going to listen to the coach and try to improve where I need to improve and see what happens," said to the Siya crew after Sundowns finished third in the recently concluded Diski Shield.Mashiane came on in the 72nd minute in a 3-2 victory over Royal AM in May.
"For me, it was a big game and a great motivation because it shows me where I can improve. I am really looking forward to building my game to that level. I was nervous, but the coaches came to me and told me to play my football and relax. I tried to be myself, but you know that in the first game there are challenges here and there."
