Mamelodi Sundowns have set their sights on conquering the CAF Champions League for the season ahead.
For all their dominance and success in the premiership, the Brazilians have not won the CAF Champions League since 2016, and are now understood to have pinned the elusive trophy as a priority for the upcoming season, placing it ahead of the DStv Premiership league title. "For the club and the players, the Champions League is the big priority. The league is important too, we’ve won it for a few years now but you know the Champions League – that’s the trophy everyone here is desperate to get. Those are the club’s ambitions," a club source toldSundowns surprisingly crashed out of last season’s CAF Champions League in the quarter-finals stage against Petro Atletico, who won the first encounter 2-1 and drew 1-1 in the reserve fixture to win on aggregate.
"We are looking forward to the next season. It’s going to be interesting because teams have also beefed up their squads and we all need to give our best and try to win the Champions League because it’s overdue now.
