HEALING PRESCRIPTION
Re “Vital signs of trouble” by Scott Laurie where he says Ontario nurses are leaving here for better job offers in the U.S.A. I can’t blame them one bit. The nurses here do fantastically caring, professional work, as I witnessed myself at North York General recently. Our hospitals need every one of them. Let us not forget, though, that we have free hospital care, unlike the U.S.A., where the smallest operation may force one to mortgage the house to pay for it.
Also, I believe our politicians get their hospital health care immediately on demand and don’t have to wait five hours for a five-minute talk with a doctor, as I did recently at Brampton Civic emergency. Of course, the usual wonk’s bafflegab is that the government does not have the money! Rubbish! What we need to do then to pay the nurses a decent salary is to eliminate all the useless entities that suck up billions in taxpayers’ dollars every day.
