National Post readers discuss the performance of Canada\u0027s foreign affairs minister, and other issues of the day

Sabrina Maddeaux’s argument that celebrity and power in hockey culture is at the root of the Hockey Canada debacle does not go far enough. At the centre of this issue is the casual acceptance throughout our society that violence against women is OK, especially when alcohol is present.

Our society needs radical change in regard to sexual violence of all sorts. A good place to start is with explicit sex education throughout the school and amateur sports systems, focusing on consent. It’s likely that the Ford government in Ontario cannot be counted on for leadership in this area, given the Conservative government’s appalling record on sex education. But this should be a key demand of parents, teachers and their unions and sports governing bodies.

Regarding Hockey Canada, there has to be accountability. As a hockey fan, and eager follower of the World Juniors, I’m expecting house cleaning and appropriate punishment for all those involved , before I put my fan hat back on.
