Sir Jake Berry and Scott Benton are among those to pile pressure of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt
Conservative Lancashire MPs have joined calls for the Government to slash spending on equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives while also attacking spending on certain charities.
The report is titled Defunding Politically Motivated Campaigns and comes with the promise of "ending waste and division". Among its aims are scrapping EDI training and positions which it claims costs UK taxpayer £557 million a year, as well as 1m lost working days.It also claims that £778m of government grants to charities each year are used going to groups which "cause public disturbances, commit crimes, block roads and frustrate the government’s policies in the courts.
As well as those from Lancashire, senior MPs including Sir Iain Duncan Smith and David Davis are among those to have signed the letter. They say: "“We will have a much better chance of cutting taxes or spending more on frontline public services if we end this sort of waste.” The Chancellor is understood to be open to considering the Conservative Way Forward report as part of a wider efficiency review, according to the PA News agency.
