But if there were any, that didn’t stem the flow of blood leaking out of the landmark hotel..On Jan. 29, officers took a report of a seriously injured man at a local hospital. From there, they went to the Manwin where they found Carl George Wescoupe, 40, dead in his room, who had been reportedly stabbed in a targeted slaying. And there’s more. Steven Anthony Sealy, 25, was stabbed to death at the hotel on April 16, 2020 while John Blaine Flett, 50, was also stabbed to death on July 16, 2017.
Around 1 a.m. on April 18, 1918, two tenants of the hotel broke into the owner’s hardware store next door. They were surprised by Const. Bernard Snowden, 30, and he was promptly shot to death. Tragedy struck again on March 11, 1950 when Martha Perrault — a widow with six young children — met a man named Walter Stoney, a cook who lived in Room 45 of the hotel. The next morning they found the seriously injured Stoney on the nearby Canadian Pacific tracks where he tried to throw himself off a train.Article content
Stoney told detectives he thought the widow was poisoning him so he murdered her. He swung from a hangman’s rope on Jan. 17, 1951.
