The Calgary Flames can’t help themselves — of course they’re keeping tabs on the Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators.

On Friday, for example, the Flames knew the Jets were beating up on the Detroit Red Wings before they even took to the ice in Vancouver for their game with the Canucks. If nothing else, that brought the stakes into focus.

The Flames don’t necessarily have every Jets and Predators game on in the locker room or anything along those lines. It’s more just that guys are paying attention. Heading into Sunday’s slate of NHL games — the Flames were set to play the Anaheim Ducks and the Jets had the New Jersey Devils on tap —A good result for the Flames or a bad one for the Jets could change that, though.
