Jeff Smith has owned and operated The Comic Hunter in Charlottetown for more than 30 years. We wanted to know more about him, so we asked him 20 questions. Here’s what he said.

I was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and I live in P.E.I., since the mid-seventies.I feel like my role on the Island is entirely community based. I’ve made it my mission to be a cultural hub of the Island and we’ve got generations of people who’ve come through here. We’ve got grandkids of our original customers who came in here and we’ve touched their lives with comics and gaming and fairly smart casual activities. So, I’m kind of a shepherd of that.

Comic Hunter on Queen Street in Charlottetown. Owner Jeff Smith also has two other locations in New Brunswick. - George Melitides/SaltWire NetworkI was at home surfing Facebook and I saw that Motörhead was making a cruise, where you would just hang out with Motörhead on a cruise and a bunch of other bands. And I basically became ridiculously excited and my daughter heard this and said to my wife, ‘you need to book this cruise it’s going to be life changing.

Jeff Smith owner of Comic Hunter in Charlottetown says he has thousands of comics by the time he was 10 or 11. - George Melitides/SaltWire NetworkI took the raw enthusiasm that Mike Cassidy had when I took accounting from him and immediately opened the business. So, nobody more directly lead to the business existing than him. Everything he said was so pro-entrepreneurship that I’m surprised the entire school didn’t just go out and start businesses.

Worst quality, inability to remember names, it’s absolutely maddening, frustrating. I know a lot about the customers who come in here, and sometimes I have a customer who’s come in here for 20 years and I just blank.North Rustico, I go walk that boardwalk and I feel good about the whole world when I watch the birds out in the harbour. It’s great.I follow as many of those movers and shakers on the Island as possible, and I interact with them quite a bit because I’m very community minded.
