Turning Hood Habits into a musical was a long, involved process for Taylor, who began by taking her early draft to the Playwrights Atlantic Resource Centre, and shaping it at their Playwrights Colony retreat with actor/playwright/Ship’s Company Theatre artistic director Richie Wilcox, while getting a first-draft read-through by professional actors.
Kailin Glasgow , left, and Maddie Tench rehearse a scene from the musical Hood Habits produced by the Charles Taylor Theatre & Media Arts Association at the Light House Arts Centre. - Eric Wynne “Through the musical, I want to show these kids that they can do it,” she says of her cast of 12. “A lot of them want to act full time, I want to help them see that they can have a career in this without doing the things that they have had to do or have not had to do.”Taylor’s partner in this process is stage manager Nikki Beaulieu-Belliveau, whose background with Neptune Theatre and the Dartmouth Players has been a valuable asset in bringing Hood Habits from page to stage.
