While searching for lost sunglasses, three hikers on Table Mountain heard cries for help from a fallen trail runner. They assisted him back to Smuts Track and contacted Wilderness Search and Rescue.
Three local hikers on Table Mountain were searching for a lost pair of sunglasses when they heard cries for help from a 27-year-old US trail runner who had fallen and injured himself. The trail runner had been geocaching in the morning and was making his way down Hiddingh Ravine when he slipped and fell several meters. Unable to call for help because his phone battery was drained, he tried to crawl back up the steep trail. The hikers, hearing his cries, immediately scrambled down to help him.
After realizing the extent of his injuries, they contacted Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) and helped him back up to Smuts Track. WCG Health and Wellness EMS paramedics treated him and provided warm clothing before WSAR team members carried him down the challenging terrain for three and a half hours using rope safety systems and a stretcher wheel
