Surf conditions are dangerous in P.E.I. National Park on Monday, Aug. 8. - SaltWire NetworkCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Parks Canada is warning visitors of dangerous surf conditions in P.E.I. National Park on Monday.

Parks Canada said rip currents are a hazard on P.E.I. beaches which form when waves break near the shoreline.Parks Canada advises against entering the water in P.E.I. National Park and people are asked to follow surf guard instructions. Should a swimmer find themselves caught in a rip current, they should stay calm, attract attention, conserve energy, tread water and let waves help them back to shore.

If that doesn't work, swimmers should swim parallel to shore out of the current toward the breaking waves.For more information Parks Canada can be contacted at 902-672-6350.
