“In some cases, the ages moved a year and in other cases it didn’t, so some sports had to almost start the entire process and the group that is going is completely different than the group had it been held in 2021. There have been lots of challenges.”Caron is no stranger to the Games. The Summerside resident is attending his 12th Canada Games – once as an athlete and 11 times as a mission staff member, including chef de mission in 2007, 2009 and 2013.

This year, P.E.I. is sending its largest ever delegation – 363 people and 24 teams – to a Canada Games. The previous record was 320 people. Team P.E.I. assistant chef de mission Francois Caron, left, and chef de mission Jo-anne Wallace recently sat down with the SaltWire Network in Summerside to look ahead to the province’s participation in the 2022 Canada Summer Games in the Niagara region of Ontario. Team P.E.I. kicked off competition on Aug. 7. The Games continue until Aug. 21.
