Having the conflict that still goes on in Afghanistan go out of headlines and off the news, takes away support and media attention that may be vital to getting civilians the help that they need. Having resources that are vital need to be allocated, and at the ready, for any healing or progression to start in the country, as well as trying to break the intergenerational trauma that has planted its roots in so many family lines in the country.

The collapse of vital systems in this country has led to children having no schooling, limited interactions, no food, limited drinking water, and even some being recruited to be ‘soldiers’ on the Taliban’s front lines.

These children, their parents, and in some cases their grandparents, have generational trauma that transcends age and moves through the generations in a family or community, and affects people even after the traumatic event has happened.Intergenerational trauma is in no way a new theme specific to Afghanistan but has been seen in Jewish survivors of the Holocaust, Indigenous communities affected by colonial practices, and other regions that have or have seen long-term conflict.
