In an air quality statement issued Monday, the federal agency said smoke is drifting downwind from forest fires near the Bay d'Espoir Highway and is heavily concentrated near the surface. The area affected includes Grand Falls - Windsor and vicinity, the Bay d'Espoir Highway and Gander and surrounding areas.: the hazy look and smokey smell in the air this morning is originating from forest fires over the Bay d'Espoir Highway area.
