“Sea glass is so much more than bottles," says avid collector Meaghan Landry of Louisdale. - ContributedLOUISDALE, N.S. — For the residents and visitors of Atlantic Canada fortunate in their proximity to the ocean, collecting sea glass is a popular pastime incorporated into the occasional seaside stroll.
It can be easy to forget that these magical little pieces were once part of something bigger. Now broken and discarded, they await discovery by a beachcomber on the hunt. Landry recalls one such piece that she unearthed from the sand during a visit to the beach to spend some time with her thoughts. “My father passed away in December of 2018, and his memory often occupied my thoughts while I searched for sea glass.
In addition to collecting, Landry also captures stunning photos of her sea glass discoveries in stylized beachy landscapes. Inspired by creative photos of sea glass she saw online, Landry wanted to highlight some of the beautiful pieces of her own collection.
