Basadien Opens Up On Chiefs Interest
Fawaaz Basadien 's Bafana Bafana call-up has come at a time when there's been serious transfer interest from Kaizer Chiefs, but he's given a clear indication that he is not affected by the all the hype surrounding him at the moment.
In great form for Stellenbosch FC at the moment, the left back has been called-up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan. His performances have also caught the attention of Amakhosi, who have made contact with Stellenbosch but are not succeeding in their bid to secure the signature of the 27-year-old.
It's not always easy to stay focused when there is a big club knocking on the door, but Basadien was calmness personified when he was in front of the media in a Bafana Bafana press conference on Monday, as he spoke about interest from Chiefs. "For me personally, I think it's to control what I can control. Obviously I am contracted to Stellenbosch. That's where I am playing, so all I can do is put in good performances week in and week out," Basadien told media at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, where Bafana had their first training session of the week ahead of Friday evening's clash against Uganda at Orlando Stadium."I am there to do a job, never mind what's going around the media.
Basadien's good start to the season gives him a shot at getting some minutes for the national team. Stellies are through to the MTN8 final after knocking out Mamelodi Sundowns and they are gaining valuable experience as well in the CAF Confederation Cup. These matches certainly come at the right time for Basadien, who is fully focused. For 14 free days, you can have access to the best from Soccer Laduma, KickOff, Daily Sun, TrueLove and Drum.
