Experts are optimistic that this season will be significantly better than the last.
With the planting season for maize and soybeans approaching soon in the eastern and western regions of the country, experts are optimistic that this season will be significantly better than the last. Agricultural economist, Wandile Sihlobo, attributes this optimism to favorable forecasts from global weather experts, suggesting promising weather conditions ahead.
Data from the Agriculture Department’s crop estimates committee reveals that maize harvest estimates have dropped below 13 million tons for the first time in five years, at 12,8 million tons. Agbiz Chief Economist, Wandile Sihlobo, says sunflower seed production is projected to be 13,500 tons lower than the earlier forecast of 650,000 tons.
