A 21-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the case at a residential unit at Tampines Street 91 on Oct 20.Officers identified and arrested the man on the same day.

A mobile phone and a debtor's note were seized as case exhibits. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment.First-time offenders found guilty of loan shark harassment will face up to five years' jail, a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, and caning of up to six strokes.

The police said they have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities and that those who deliberately cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law. Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
