The repechage round gave Nene and Pillay a second crack at qualifying for the semifinals.
Sprinters, Zakithi Nene and Lythe Pillay, have made most of their opportunities in the men’s 400 metres at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The duo has advanced to Tuesday evening’s semifinals courtesy of victories in their respective repechage heats.
Pillay, who had finished 7th in his heat in 45.5 seconds, led from the start in his repechage heat. Although the 21-year-old ran out of steam on the home straight, he held on to finish first in 45.4 seconds to advance to the semifinal. It was still well off his season’s best of 44.33 seconds set in Pietermaritzburg earlier this year.
