South Africa n authorities continue their search for a suspect wanted in connection with the kidnapping of women. In a recent development, Fezile Ngubane, who had been identified as a suspect in a syndicate targeting young women, has been cleared of any wrongdoing and released from police custody. The South Africa n Police Service (Saps) confirmed Ngubane's release on Saturday.Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane has issued a warning to residents about a potential worsening of the city's water woes.
The municipality urges residents to conserve water as it conducts a 107-hour planned major maintenance by Rand Water, impacting parts of the city. Residents in Region 6 and parts of Regions 2 and 3 are particularly urged to significantly reduce their water consumption due to depleting reservoir levels.The weather service predicts generally fine and cool to warm conditions across South Africa. However, partly cloudy skies are expected in the northeastern regions and along the southwest coast, with potential for damaging waves along the south coast. Earlier in the week, the media industry mourned the death of veteran journalist and editor Andrew Trench, who passed away surrounded by family on Friday evening after battling oesophageal cancer. Trench had a distinguished career working for various major publications both in South Africa and internationally. Adding to the news cycle, the Nissan plant in Rosslyn, outside Pretoria, is facing potential closure as the Japanese car manufacturer seeks to cut global losses. Nissan plans to reduce its global assembly facilities from 17 to 10 by 2027, and the Rosslyn Plant is reportedly among those earmarked for closure. In a separate incident, the Road Traffic Inspectorate collaborated with the South African Police Service to arrest a truck driver for drinking and driving along the N3 Freeway in Van Reenen.
