Making his second start since a stint on the injury list to heal what was officially called a neck strain — but was more of a mental break for the Japanese southpaw — Kikuchi could be a valued option for the Jays down the stretch.
How long the Jays will continue to rely on Kikuchi as a rotational piece will depend on his progression. But given Ross Stripling’s injury-list designation earlier in the day, they’re going to need him for the next couple of weeks, at least.manager John Schneider said. “Another positive outing to build off of. I liked the command of all three pitches.The relatively short outing by Kikuchi forced Schneider to cycle through his bullpen, using five relievers – none of them for more than an inning.
“Bad timing,” said Schneider. “He felt it a little in his last start and got it checked out. We’re going to be careful. Hopefully, it’s not too much of an absence for him.
