Becton, Dickinson & Co. has issued a voluntary recall of special containers that hospitals use to sterilize surgical instruments, after finding some of the containers may have had breaches that could lead to infections in patients.
The BD recall applies to 17 versions of the reusable metal containers, sold under the Genesis Sterrad brand name, which store surgical tools such as scissors and forceps during and after sterilization.
