Environment Canada is warning of strong winds in the Greater Victoria and southern Gulf Islands areas Wednesday night.
"The strongest winds are expected over eastern sections of the city near Haro Strait and Southern Gulf Islands," said Environment Canada in a weather warning Wednesday morning.
The strong southeasterly winds are being caused by a cold front that's moving down Vancouver Island, according to the weather office. "Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage," said Environment Canada. "High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break."
