Although Marvel Studios attempted to have Thor leave his hammer behind in the MCU, Mjolnir always found its way back to the God of Thunder.
Looking at his entire on-screen career, Thor has never really escaped Mjolnir in the MCU. Beginning with the first Thor film and culminating with Thor: Love and Thunder, the Son of Odin and his mighty hammer have had quite the journey together. However, the odds of Thor losing or having his hammer destroyed again is extremely low.
Forged in the heart of a dying star from the magical ore known as Uru, Mjolnir was enchanted by Thor's father Odin so that only the most worthy could wield it. As such, the Son of Odin's origins in 2011's Thor are centered around his growth, eventually becoming worthy enough to wield his hammer going forward as a true hero and eventual King of Asgard.
While the past version of Mjolnir was taken back to its rightful time in Endgame's final act, Thor: Love and Thunder saw the present hammer reassembling and granting its power to Jane Foster rather than Thor. However, the hammer ultimately belonged to the God of Thunder once more after Jane sacrificed herself battling Gorr the God Butcher. As a result, Thor now has Mjolnir again while he helps those in need, his adopted daughter Love by his side.
Why Thor Hasn't Been Able To Leave Mjolnir Behind Given the grand scope of Thor's entire arc in the MCU, it's evident that Mjolnir is far more than just a weapon and tool to be used in the protection of Asgard, Earth, and the greater cosmos. It's a part of who Thor is, a symbol of his true power as the God of Thunder and his status as an Avenger.
It makes sense why the Son of Odin hasn't been able to part with his hammer completely. Mjolnir is iconic and generally the first thing that comes to mind with fans think about the God of Thunder. Even though Stormbreaker's debut in Avengers: Infinity War is one of the MCU's most epic scenes, Mjolnir's status in relation to the God of Thunder wasn't lessened or mitigated.
