Even with a portion plowed, the path through Blue Acres was a slushy mess on Jan. 23. Municipality of Pictou County councillors recently debated whether neighbouring towns should chip in on sidewalk costs in this area. - Adam MacInnisAndy Thompson offered to take fellow Municipality of Pictou County councillors for a walk through Blue Acres last week - but if they accepted he cautioned, they better bring some rubber boots.
While the topic has been often debated, council has made no commitments to do the work. One issue that has been debated in the past is whether neighbouring municipalities Stellarton and New Glasgow should pay for a portion of the sidewalk since it would be used heavily by their residents. “We’re asking for problems here,” he said. “It will have an impact on flow of traffic through there.”
He said he hopes the motion isn’t just a matter of getting the request to the other towns out of the way and then with a “no” response, assuming the Municipality will have to pay for it all. Thompson made it clear he does not believe either New Glasgow or Stellarton should have to contribute.
