The White House isn't inclined to fire Kellyanne Conway for violating the Hatch Act, no matter what the Office of the Special Counsel says

for repeated violations of the Hatch Act, the law that bars federal employees from engaging in partisan politics. In a searing report, the Office of Special Counsel stated that Conway had “disparag[ed] Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during television interviews and on social media”—a clear violation.Henry Kerner,

a Trump appointee and Federalist Society alumnus, making his rebuke all the more surprising. And the statement outlining its issues with Conway was thorough. “Although the President and Vice President are exempt from the Hatch Act, employees of the White House are not,”, stating that its report to Trump outlined that Conway was a “repeat offender.” Conway, “if left unpunished, would send a message to all federal employees that they need not abide by the Hatch Act’s restrictions.

The West Wing and the OSC have been at loggerheads over Conway’s behavior for several weeks. In a letterreamed the agency for dropping the draft report at 5 p.m. and demanding a response by 9 a.m. the next day, giving the White House less than a day to respond to the numerous allegations.
