The new ChatGPT subscription tier has us scratching our heads. Why is it so expensive? Is it even worth it for the price?
ChatGPT Pro costs an eye-watering R3 600 per month for unlimited access to all AI models from the company.Despite what some may think, OpenAI is a for-profit company and it is working towards turning its impressive internet traffic into cash dollars and doing so as fast as possible. On Thursday, the company launched a brand new subscription tier for ChatGPT – its most expensive tier yet – and it has left us scratching our heads.
The company has previously said that this mode for the model performs better in benchmarks when answering math, science and coding problems compared to other versions. Another concern is that ChatGPT Plus – the first subscription tier launched by the company for R360 a month – is now seeing further limitations as new subscription tiers demand OpenAI establish previously non-existent barriers to shine up newer, more expensive tiers.
