Money can buy a real campaign, but it can’t change the billionaire himself
The political establishment has reacted with some satisfaction to the news that Mike Bloomberg’s campaign this morning came to a sudden, ignominious close. The multibillionaire’s doomed run proved, it seemed, that a presidential nomination can’t be bought even with all the money in the world, which is effectively what Bloomberg spent.

Why a team of such skilled professionals thought it best to keep Bloomberg out of such forums until that first debate is baffling. One possibility is that maybe Bloomberg himself believed he did not need such challenges, and that a half-a-billion dollars worth of ads and a highly paid army of foot soldiers would do the job.
