Warm enough. I checked, and the highest temperature recorded by Environment Canada in the last 25 years in Kentville was 31.7 C — that was in 2013.
Meanwhile, the London tube system told people not to travel and there were severe delays due to heat-related restrictions on a number of subway lines. The Hammersmith & City line was suspended entirely because of heat. The Weather Network forecast is calling for well above normal temperatures in Atlantic Canada this summer, so we do need to be attuned. Heat stroke is a whole other level of concern. Symptoms are a high temperature, confusion, a lack of coordination, dizziness and very hot, red skin. When this happens, it’s a medical emergency requiring a 911 call.
At our house, brand new heat pumps offer us divine cooling by clicking a switch. They’re quite amazing, but I wonder if our marriage will survive this new technology. I find myself wrapping up in a shawl, while hubby is lapping up the chill feeling. No doubt we’ll work it out.
