‘We are upping our game and this is just one of those building blocks’: health minister
Health Minister Tom Osborne. Andrew Waterman/SaltWire NetworkST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A new program that offers money on a one-time, upfront basis to physicians, nurses and paramedics for a guarantee of several years of service will make Newfoundland and Labrador the most competitive province in Canada, Health Minister Tom Osborne said at a news conference on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
“Individuals who have a connection to Newfoundland and Labrador, generally, stay longer. After the return in service, they’ve got a connection, they’re more likely to stay,” Osborne said. “So, we’re offering it in two segments. One is asking people to come home, to work here, and the other is to try to entice people who’ve never lived here before to come to Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Eligible physicians, nurses and paramedics with a connection to the province could receive twice the amount of those without a connection.
