‘It’s a job to negotiate recognition,’ says NAPE president Jerry Earle

JOHN'S, N.L. — Public-sector workers with the province’s largest union voted largely in favour of new collective agreements in a ratification vote that concluded Oct. 1.
NAPE president Jerry Earle said this is language that unions have been fighting for in the province for 10 to 20 years. “How often do you hear an air ambulance pilot talked about? They provide an invaluable service to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, transferring the most critically ill people,” he said.
Earle said he couldn’t discuss the particular issues of the three bargaining units that didn’t ratify the tentative agreement.
